Day 01 :

Departure to Gonder

Fly from Addis Ababa to Gondar, where your Simien Mountains trekking adventure begins. Drive onward to Michibiny before starting the trek to Sankaber.

Day 02 :

Gondar to Sankaber

Drive approximately 2.5 hours from Gondar to Michibiny (3,200m), stopping briefly at the Simien Mountains National Park headquarters to arrange permits. Begin with an easy 2–3-hour hike to Sankaber (3,250m), providing an ideal introduction to the altitude and mountain environment.

Day 03 :

Sankaber to Gich

Trek approximately 12 km over 5–6 hours through highland grasslands, heather forests, cultivated fields, and along the spectacular Simien escarpment. Look out for large groups of Gelada baboons and enjoy dramatic views of Jinbar Falls, plunging several hundred meters into the valley.

Continue to Gich village, where you can experience a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony before settling into camp.

Day 04 :

Gich to Chennek

Take on one of the most spectacular sections of the Simien Mountains trek, hiking approximately 12 km over 7–8 hours with a detour to Imet Gogo (3,925m). Enjoy breathtaking views, giant lobelia, and opportunities to spot soaring lammergeyers and thick-billed ravens.

Continue past Inataye (4,070m) and through dramatic valleys toward Chennek, one of the best places to see the endangered Walia ibex.

Day 05 :

Chennek to Ras Bwahit and Gondar

Complete your Simien Mountains adventure with a 10 km, 5–6-hour trek toward Bwahit Pass (4,200m) and, for those with the energy, Ras Bwahit (4,430m), Ethiopia’s second-highest peak.

Keep watch for Walia ibex and the exceptionally rare Ethiopian wolf before driving approximately four hours back to Gondar in the late afternoon.
